Starting Up

Being found online

Customers today expect to find businesses online, we all turn to google when we need to find out directions to a destination or a telephone number so if your business is not online you could lose out.

“British businesses should consider having a presence online as more important than having an office landline telephone number. Online is the new landline.”
– Simon Devonshire, BIS entrepreneur-in-residence.

Where do you start?

Most customers would expect to find a company website but you can use Google My Business to give you an initial online presence so at least customers can find your basic details. This service is completely free and also automatically lists you on Google+, Google’s Social Media platform.

Should I build a website myself or get a professional to do it for me?

When you move onto a full company website there are lots of free tools which can help you. Many companies use WordPress which allows you to build a website without using coding but you must think about how much time this will take out of your working day. You need to ask yourself where your skills are best used in the business.

How do I find a professional website company?

You may prefer to use a professional website company to build and manage your website, why not check out some Cumbrian website developers from our business directory? Please note a listing on the Cumbria Growth Hub Business Directory does not constitute a recommendation by the Cumbria Growth Hub. As always when taking on a new supplier make sure you get recommendations and feedback from their existing customers and check you fully understand what services they are providing and what you are responsible for. You rely on your suppliers to help you provide your service or product to your customers so this is a very important relationship.
