Action required by current or prospective exporters to Indonesia: new halal certification and labelling requirements from 17 October

The Indonesian Government is introducing new halal certification and labelling requirements from 17 October 2024. Certain agriculture, food and drink products for human consumption sold in Indonesia will require halal certification adhering to updated Indonesian standards, or be explicitly labelled as non-halal. Proposed changes to egg labelling rules support British industry

On 9 January, the Government announced that producers will no longer need to change how eggs are labelled during an outbreak of avian influenza under proposals planned to support British farmers. The proposals for England and Scotland announced today – subject to an eight-week consultation – will amend the Regulations to remove the ‘derogation’ period, meaning that free-range eggs can stay labelled as such throughout mandatory housing measures.
The consultation will close on 5 March 2024.

Mexican market opens doors for British pork offal

British pork exporters are set to benefit from additional trade with Mexico with the market opening further to include offal with a potential estimated value of £18m over the next five years.

Cumbria Tourism Awards 2024 open for entries

The 2024 Cumbria Tourism Awards is now accepting entries until 5pm on Friday 1st March.

Brexit has cost food exporters £170m

Exporters sending food products to the EU have had to pay an additional £170 million in costs due to Brexit red tape. The additional costs are described as being catastrophic for some exporters.

Support for farming industry

The Government has announced a £15 million fund to help tackle food waste by enabling farmers to redistribute surplus food that cannot be used commercially. In addition, an annual UK-wide Food Security Index will be created to capture the data needed to monitor levels of food security.
