  1. Social Value legislation across the UK – what this is, where it came from and how it is being applied
  2. Procurement Policy Notes – commissioners in scope of legislation, and those out of scope (and why they might be doing it anyway)
  3. The Social Value Model – the methodology being used to procure for social value
  4. How other Social Value metrics are being applied
  5. Group Question and Answer session It’s a light touch introduction and uses practical examples to support understanding.

Becoming Tender Ready: Doing Business with Public Sector – Monday 11th November 2024 – 9.30am to 12.30pm – Online

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understanding the systems and processes public sector organisations use to purchase goods and services
  2. Awareness of electronic portals used by public sector to procure goods and services
  3. Understanding the core elements of a tender document
  4. Identification of documentation needed in order to do business with public sector organisations
  5. Recognising an appropriate strategy to build business with public sector

Training Content:

  1. Why public sector uses tendering as a tool to purchase goods and services, i.e. the requirement for transparency and equity of access to opportunity
  2. Challenges for very small and start-up businesses in accessing tender opportunities, for example turnover, financial history, references, insurances
  3. How public sector ‘buys’ small value contracts outside tendering processes, for example Request For Quote, Approved Supplier Lists and Dynamic Purchasing Systems
  4. How to build relationships to enable access to these less formal, lower value contracts as part of a growth strategy
  5. Where public sector advertises opportunities and how to register on a tender portal and set up alerts (practical example)
  6. Practical examples of Request For Quote opportunities
  7. How to register on a Dynamic Purchasing System (using a practical example)
  8. Understanding Tender Documentation – discussing Pre-Qualification Questionnaire content
  9. Understanding Tender Documentation – discussing the structure and content of a Tender document, recognizing critical PASS/FAIL elements and evaluation scoring
  10. Identifying key actions to become tender ready, for example the creation of policy documentation and/or required accreditations.

Communicating Impact: Designing a High Impact Response in Bids and Tenders – Monday 25th November 2024 – 9.30am to 12.30pm – Online

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understanding the key elements of a high-quality social response in a tender document
  2. A structure for communicating project social impact, including clear articulation of objectives and the pathway and measurables to achieve objectives
  3. Understanding government Social Value Principles as a foundation for developing Social Impact within projects

Training Content:

  1. Provision of a clear process to ensure clarity of structure and relevance of responses. Use of bid examples throughout to ensure this is a practical rather than theoretical session
  2. Understanding the importance of policy context using practical examples, including (but not restricted to) nuclear and health sector as key Cumbrian sectors requiring social value commitments
  3. Understanding socio-economic data, how to obtain this and use it within a response to determine appropriate impact commitments
  4. Provision of a structure to ensure commitments are high impact, i.e. are specific, measurable, deliverable and accountable
