Grow your network this Autumn

Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is giving you some great opportunities to expand your network this Autumn by hosting a number of events.

Join us on Thursday 26th September to celebrate this year’s National Manufacturing Day – we’re giving you the opportunity to visit a local manufacturing business, hear their story, view their facilities and network.

We’ve got three tours running in different locations around the county – further details and the booking links are below.

Kimberly Clark located at Park Road, Barrow in Furness, LA14 4TR – taking place from 1.45pm to 4pm

Appleby Creamery located at Unit 2 Cross Croft, Appleby in Westmorland, CA16 6HX taking place from 9am to 10am or 10.30am to 11.30am

Appleby Creamery produces a wide range of distinctive and characterful cheeses ranging from soft cheeses, such as blue, brie and smoked brie to hard varieties, including cheddar and caerphilly-style cheeses.

To increase their sustainability they have embarked on a project to reduce their reliance on both grid supplied electricity and lpg. Installing an array of solar panels on the Creamery roof that will provide a high percentage of  electricity requirements, at peak it will generate 180kW and will be able to export up to 100kW of that green energy to the grid.

How to slay the Dragons in partnership with North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, brings you a unique opportunity to meet, and hear from, three award-winning entrepreneurs, and stars of the hit BBC series, Dragons Den.

Taking place on Monday 4th November from 10am to 2pm at Forrest Hills, Lancaster University there will also be an opportunity over lunch to network with businesses from North West Lancashire.

Our speakers, all of whom secured investment to make their dreams come true when they pitched their business idea to five multimillionaire investors, are ready to share their stories with you, and fellow guests.

Back in 2007 Denise Hutton-Gosney took the brave step to enter BBC’s Dragons’ Denise was looking for a £50,000 investment to grow her chain of theatre schools that had a strong emphasis on performance opportunities to help each child with their confidence and self-esteem. Derry Green – Secret Garden Glamping

Gemma Connolly – Scoff Paper
Gemma Connolly is an entrepreneur and the founder of Scoff Paper.  ‘Scoff’ claim to make the world’s first edible cards for dogs!  See Gemma’s pitch, here.

In collaboration with ICAEW North West, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is hosting our first Sustainability Conference at Rheged on 13th November from 9am to 4pm.

Join us for a day of inspiration, listening and learning. We’ve a jam packed programme of speakers sharing their net zero/sustainability journey including Pirelli, The Rebuild Site, Cumberland Building Society, Shed 1 Distillery and The Yan. Both councils will give an update on their sustainability progress and plans, the conference also includes networking opportunities, lunch and refreshments, and ends with a panel discussion.

You’ll also hear from event sponsors Barclays and Go Low Carbon.
