Support in Westmorland & Furness focusing on business decarbonisation and sustainability

Managed by Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) and delivered by a range of partners (including Cumbria Business Growth Hub), there’s a great range of support for businesses in Westmorland & Furness wanting to reduce their carbon footprint and operate more sustainably.

We wanted to draw your attention to the below support which may be of interest, there are also details of an event happening soon in Barrow.

Guardians of Grub

It’s estimated that the Hospitality and Food Service industry throw £3.2billion of wasted food into the bin each year – an average cost of £10,000 for every outlet in the UK!

With new legislation set to come into force in March 2025, requiring any organisation with 10+ staff to separate out and dispose of food waste separately, the cost might be about to rise.

Cumbria Tourism have teamed up with the Guardians of Grub as part of the Westmorland & Furness Green Enterprise Hub to provide a personalised approach to food waste reduction. And best of all, it’s completely free.

What’s on offer?

  • 1 week of food waste monitoring to identify key areas of waste and produce a personalised report
  • 2 hour face to face or online session to run through the report and discuss waste reduction solutions for your organisation
  • 1/2 weeks to implement some of the solutions discussed
  • Follow up week of food waste monitoring to see how the changes have impacted
  • 2 hour face to face or online session to develop a food waste reduction action plan

Price reduction

Some of the services offered through the CAfS partnership are chargeable but there’s good news! The price of energy and renewables advice visits has been reduced to £100 per service.
