Looking to refresh its adviser pool, Cumbria Business Growth Hub is now recruiting business advisers with the relevant experience, knowledge and backgrounds to offer support and guidance to budding entrepreneurs, young businesses and established businesses through a range of funded and commercial initiatives.

Cumbria Business Growth Hub prides itself on the range and quality of services offered and has worked alongside thousands of entrepreneurs and businesses over the last 20 years supporting business launch, success, growth, sustainability, innovation and survival.

We’re looking to recruit across a range of specialisms focusing on the following list. (This is by no means exhaustive so do feel free to put forward other specialisms):

  • Self employment –all areas of start-up including business planning, marketing, social media, registration with HMRC, bookkeeping and tax returns, cashflow, profit and loss, personal survival budget, funding
  • Marketing - strategy, B2B/B2C, advertising, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), social media, content creation, Ecommerce, website, branding, PR, relationship marketing, PPC, analytics, AI, design
  • Business planning - business plan production/review, business continuity, succession planning
  • Sustainability – strategy, green/low carbon reduction, ESG, waste reduction, low carbon websites
  • Supply chain – tendering and opportunities, social value, pitching, supply chain management, cost reduction
  • Finance and funding – support with funding applications, knowledge of the funding landscape
  • Sales – lead development, product development, sales forecasting, analysis, processes and strategy, development of existing sales teams, onboarding of new members, competitor analysis
  • Pricing – strategy, competitor analysis, distribution, supply and demand, current position and future forecasting
  • Finance and accounting -Bookkeeping, payroll management, budgeting, financial reporting, tax compliance, cloud based accountancy
  • Business growth/scale-up – growth strategies, decision making
  • Innovation
  • Diversification – location, product development, expansion of product/service, moving into a new sector, acquisition and mergers
  • HR and Work Force Development – organisational change, employing people, compliance, training needs analysis, skills needs identification, sourcing of training and other provision, apprenticeships
  • IT including cyber security, infrastructure and systems
  • GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) – Corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance
  • Leadership, culture and change management

Advisers will provide 1-2-1 support which may include as needed:

  • Diagnostics, reviews, TNAs and benchmarking to support production of actions plans
  • 1-2-1 advice in the areas identified above and any additional areas of interest from submissions
  • Completion of specific project paperwork
  • Referrals to other adviser(s) where appropriate to client needs
  • Signposting to wider support where appropriate and in the best interests of clients

Clients will be sourced and allocated by Cumbria Business Growth Hub and you may also bring your own to support, subject to eligibility.

Your submission should include as a minimum:

  • An outline of your capability, capacity and experience to carry out activities including sector and topic specialisms, understanding of the needs of entrepreneurs and SMEs within Cumbria
  • Support to entrepreneurs, existing businesses or both
  • Examples of impact through delivery
  • A copy of your CV
  • Two relevant references – please ensure contact details are correct and include an email address
  • Evidence of professional indemnity insurance
  • Your hourly rate for this work and whether or not VAT applies
  • Conflicts of interest – work for any other business support organisation you are undertaking or are involved in and confirmation that you will have sufficient availability to undertake work with us
