Delve into the causes of climate change and what we can do about it. Boost understanding with our in-depth, accredited course.

Course Overview

This training course provides a clear understanding of climate science, an awareness of carbon costs and the impacts of everyday activities.

It will leave you with the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organisational basis and is a great way to meet like minded people.

It will take you concisely through the science of climate change, causes, impacts and solutions. It covers the global, UK and Cumbria picture, as well as highlighting what is happening locally, and how you can get involved.  The course presents you with a usable framework for understanding the climate emergency, how soon we need to act, the scale of that action, and what part individuals and organisations in Cumbria can play in the bigger picture.

You will leave this session more confident in your knowledge, better able to articulate what needs to be done, and with an increased sense of agency around your ability to be part of that change. You will also leave with the ability to begin to develop your own action plans, and to develop training sessions for others, if you wish to do so.

Delegates who complete the training course can become certified as 'Carbon Literate' after the course by submitting an evidence form. This involves pledging to carry out emission reduction actions as an individual and as part of a wider group, and is assessed by the Carbon Literacy Project as the awarding body. You will join a rapidly growing movement of 96,000+ certified Carbon Literate citizens worldwide.

The course is delivered by expert trainers from Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS). We Co-Chair the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership and run Cumbria’s Climate and Carbon Literacy training programme. A certified Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation, our team of certified Carbon Literate trainers bring decades of practical emission-reduction expertise, in-depth knowledge of the local area as well as significant training experience.

Carbon Management and Solutions Training

Date: Tuesday 11th February, 9:00AM - 12:00PM

Price: Free

Course will be delivered online through Zoom

Take action on your organisation's carbon footprint - gain the skills to adopt a robust approach to net zero and develop a decarbonisation plan.

If you’re committed to reducing your organisation's carbon footprint, but are struggling to know how to go about it, this course will help.

This 3-hour course will build your understanding of carbon auditing and carbon management, and provide you with practical knowledge about effective carbon reduction solutions. This course is an ideal follow up to our Climate and Carbon Literacy Training, but equally useful on its own.

Specifically, we will:

  • Highlight the benefits of managing and reducing your carbon emissions, including why it’s so important to do so.
  • Build your understanding of sources and magnitudes of carbon emissions from your business, and how that varies between different business types.
  • Explain and demystify carbon auditing.
  • Help you understand and adopt a robust approach to net zero.
  • Inspire you with an introduction to the circular economy, a model for operating sustainably.
  • Increase your knowledge of specific solutions for reducing carbon emissions associated with your building energy, travel and transport and the things that you consume as a business. We’ll look at both quick wins and bigger projects, ways to consume less and ways of consuming better.
  • Advise you on the specialist help available to develop and implement these solutions and support you with your on-going carbon management.

Throughout the course we will give you time to develop an initial Decarbonisation Plan, filled with ideas generated from our discussions.

There will be an optional 30 mins extra at the end of the course to ask further questions.
