Case Study: Basecamp North Lakes & Alpacaly Ever After

Green Enterprise Hub case studies

Emma and Terry purchased the site at Basecamp North Lakes in 2022, as a home for their Alpaca rescue CIC, Alpacaly Ever After. Since then they have made significant changes to transform the site into a biodiverse landscape with a locally sourced farm shop and café and space for community growing.

The team have made significant upgrades to the existing buildings including installing an 80kw solar array, and landscape with the addition of wetlands, trees and an ambitious partnership with Ullswater CIC to start £80,000 of work in 2024. The team are keen to expand their community gardening and mycology, growing mushrooms on the site and understanding the impact of mycology on our soils.

The W&F Green Enterprise Hub has been supporting Basecamp to reduce the carbon footprint of their menu, establish vermiculture on the site, and reduce food waste through our low carbon food advice services.

In partnership with Emma and Terry we developed a concept for a climate conscious dish, to fit with their overall menu concept. Alongside the carbon footprint of the menu, we also discussed a whole range of subjects and actions to consider. - Nick Lancaster, Low Carbon Food Adviser
